About

Attorney Brian S. Shallcross has years of experience fighting on behalf of the injured and disabled, something that has helped him become the highly respected plaintiffs’ personal injury trial lawyer he is today. While still in college, Brian worked with attorneys on behalf of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to assist foster parents and caretakers in securing federal disability benefits for special-needs foster children. That work inspired him to continue on to DePaul University College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2005. Brian then joined one of Chicago’s most prominent personal injury law firms where he cut his teeth working on a wide range of high profile, high stakes cases involving a variety of issues, including automobile collisions, aviation, medical malpractice, products liability, commercial trucking, premises liability, and civil rights.

With his quick success in personal injury litigation, Brian was selected as one of Chicago Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s Top 40 Under 40 Attorneys to Watch in 2009. It is a distinguished honor that was determined by nominations from his peers on both sides of the aisle.

Brian has achieved many notable verdicts and settlements since he started practicing law in 2005. For example, Brian successfully obtained a $5 million verdict in Cook County on behalf of a woman who underwent an unnecessary hysterectomy. This is the largest medical negligence verdict for an unnecessary hysterectomy verdict in Illinois, for which the Law Bulletin Publishing Company recognized Brian and his trial partner with the Trial Lawyer Excellence Award. Brian also helped secure a $5,950,000 jury verdict in DuPage County on behalf of a man who suffered severe nerve and muscle damage in his leg after a doctor negligently tore his iliac artery while performing a contraindicated stenting procedure. Brian was also part of the legal team that secured a $77 million dollar global settlement in the John Hancock Building scaffolding collapse litigation. He achieved a $3,000,000 settlement on behalf of a man who suffered a fractured arm in an automobile collision, necessitating five surgeries. Brian was also successful in securing a $2,500,000 settlement on behalf of a Wisconsin family who lost their loved one in an airplane crash that occurred during flight instruction. In 2022, Brian acheived an $11 million dollar settlement on behalf of a woman who was negligently misdiagnosed with a seizure when she in fact was suffering from a catastrophic stroke. This was the largest medical malpractice settlement in DuPage County in 2022.

As a result of his many successful verdicts and settlements, Brian was selected by his peers for the honor of Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2012-2015 and for Super Lawyers in 2016 and 2018-2023. He has also been named as one of The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Civil Plaintiffs Lawyers. In addition to his achievements as a personal injury attorney, Brian is a member of the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice.
